Why our trenching helps reduce rework
Routes kept neat
Careful lines help the next trade work more quickly and cleanly.
Access looked at early
We plan the machine route to reduce disruption around the site.
Related works coordinated
Service runs can be paired with drainage or wider excavation needs.
Service runs dug with care and clear planning
When a new service route is needed, a tidy trench saves problems later. At M & M Man & Machine, we carry out service trenching for domestic customers and property developers, digging neat runs for pipes, cables and related connections where a mini digger is the right fit. From Southam, we help with routes to extensions, outbuildings, garden offices and across small plots, always with an operator supplied rather than self hire. Our building trade experience helps us understand why line, depth consistency and sensible access planning matter before the next trade comes in.

Route planning matters as much as the digging
Before work starts, we ask where the trench begins and ends, what the installer needs in terms of depth or width, how the machine gets in and whether there are any known services to avoid. We then set out the run and excavate carefully, leaving the trench ready for installation or for any agreed next step. At M & M Man & Machine, we can also coordinate trenching with drainage work, extension excavation or general excavation when those tasks are all part of the same project.
Frequently asked questions
What do you need to know before digging a service run?
Please tell us the intended route, the end points, access width, any drawings or installer information and whether there are known underground services. It also helps to know how spoil should be managed, especially if the trench crosses gardens or drive areas.
Can you dig trenches for more than one run on a site?
Yes, if the project needs several routes and the scope is agreed in advance. We can discuss the layout and plan the trenching in a sensible order, which helps the site stay organised and keeps follow on trades moving more efficiently.
Is backfilling included with service trenching?
The scope should always be agreed up front. Our main role is the excavation itself, leaving the trench ready for the next trade or for an agreed next step. If there is any extra work needed around the trench, it is best discussed before the visit is booked.
